Husbands Speak: She Can Be Trusted. (Proverbs 31:11)

After a long break, we are back with the A Woman of Noble Character series! As a recap, we had studied verse 10, which talks the virtuous woman and her worth. Now, there is a second character introduced in verse 11: the husband!

“Her husband can trust her, and lacks nothing of value.”

As I kept thinking and praying on how to cover this verse, the idea of me doing it wasn’t thrilling me. After all, this verse is a sudden change of perspective! I could write about it, but what better than to read it explained from godly husbands themselves?

So I asked and was able to get valuable feedback from two great men of God. I am beyond excited for their contributions — I have gotten the privilege of knowing both the husbands and their wives and can definitely see the fruit of their marriage! Their love for the Lord is undeniable and it is a treat that we get to learn from their God-given wisdom.

Without further ado, here is what they had to say about Proverbs 31:11.

Q. “Can you explain Proverbs 31:11?”

A. “This verse is specifically speaking about the confidence that the husband has in his wife when he knows that her heart is submitted to the Lord.

The husband has confidence in her because he first knows the goodness of God and that His ways lead to life and blessing. Because the wife of noble character wants to love God, honor His ways and fulfill his commands, the husband has full confidence that the motivations of her heart will be pure. He knows that her aim will be to be a vessel of God in all that she does. Therefore, the important decisions that she makes as she helps to build a family and serve the community will also be those that lead to life and blessing.

These are all things that I see in B. She brings love, laughter, encouragement, truth, correction, strength, support, value and wisdom to our daily lives. As her husband, I am privileged to be the first to be blessed by her virtuous character which also spills over into the lives of all others that she knows and meets.”

Q. “Can you explain Proverbs 31:11?”

A. “I think Proverbs 31 is always a fascinating chapter to work through, as it lays out such a beautiful example of a God-centered woman. I am married to a woman who tries her best to keep Christ as her focus (aka a Proverbs 31 woman), so whenever I read it, I feel I can relate to the relaxed husband that this chapter describes.

Specifically in verse 11, the Proverb states that her husband has full confidence in her and as a direct result of that, he lacks nothing. This simply means that when a husband can trust his wife, because of her confidence in the Lord, there is nothing else that he needs. See, I know that my wife strives to obey Christ and wear Him as her main garment, so even when my job is stressful and even when the bills get tight and even when I don’t feel as though I have the strength, I know that I can trust my wife and therefore all else will work out. I know that together we can make it through.

Now, don’t get me wrong, my confidence must be in Christ as well, but when speaking of this verse, I think it is highlighting the importance of trust in the marriage. When a husband has full confidence in his wife because he can trust her and her faith in God, what else does he need?”

Wow, wasn’t that awesome? As we can see, knowing Christ not only fills us up, but allows us to be a source of blessing, encouragement, support and confidence for others. A woman of noble character inspires trust because her steps are guided by the Lord himself!

And who is more trustworthy than our God? We have a great teacher in Him.

“O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.” 2 Samuel 7:28

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'”Revelation 21:5

Whether in marriage or in singleness, God is more than willing to shape us into His character if we allow Him to. As we walk in His purposes and are guided by Him, we too, can be trusted!
